Ever wondered what it's like to be inside the mind of the most prolific inventor in history?

I got the answers to that question last July 24 when I attended the launch of Da Vinci's Workshop at the SM Mall of Asia.

Before I take you to a tour of the workshop, let's get to know Leonardo Da Vinci first.

Leonardo Da Vinci's scientific and mathematical approach to art produced amazing three-dimensional artworks that later became basis for modern science. Because of his boundless curiosity, uncanny powers of observation and innovative thinking, he conceptualized machines that were considered advanced during his time.

A veritable polymath, the expertise and interest of this Italian Renaissance genius spanned a wide range of subject areas. Apart from painting, he was well-versed in the fields of music, architecture, engineering, math, anatomy, cartography, botany and geology. He was likewise an adroit writer, sculptor and inventor.

"Leonardo Da Vinci was brought to popularity again in the modern public's consciousness through Dan Brown's best-selling novel Da Vinci by featuring his famous artworks like the Mona Lisa,

The Last Supper and Madonna on the Rocks. But he is actually much more than the artistic genius behind the prominent paintings in the Louvre Museum," shared Arturo Carballo, Jr., Senior Operations Manager for SM Family Entertainment Center.

"Da Vinci is a prodigy. He was a multi-faceted person. He was extremely skilled and talented in both sciences and the arts."

In short, he's the ultimate Jack-of-all-Trades. Man, he's got lots of free time. Must be the lack of internet.

SM Family Entertainment Center Inc. (FECI), in partnership with Aurea International Exhibits of Argentina, bestows the Philippines a rare opportunity to experience firsthand the incredible works of Leonardo Da Vinci with its first ever Da Vinci's Workshop.

This world-class exhibit features 64 moving and dynamic inventions, as well as notable paintings, of this Italian Renaissance man. It is touted as a fun and exciting way to explore the curious mind of Da Vinci without the stuffiness of traditional classroom learning! Each display features interactive components that visitors can tinker with and peruse up close such Da Vinci's helicopter prototype that makes an actual turn or a tank with real moving wheels.

Here are some that caught my fancy,

You know what I consider the best accessory in my outfit photos? Ray-Bans, of course. But you know what's even better? A clear and younger looking skin.

After a month of using the ISKIN New York skin care kit, I can finally show you the result!

I used to have bigger slightly obvious pores and my skin is always "tired" looking. I sometimes resort to using BB creams if the situation calls for it (shoots, events, etc) but it just doesn't go well with my combination skin resulting to blackheads and whiteheads eventually leading to pimples if you add stress to the equation. Of course, those minor skin situations can be treated with a regular facial visit at Flawless (shameless plug here) but it gets tiring at times especially if I feel that it's becoming more of a responsibility than otherwise. Of course it's our responsibility to take care of our skin (no one else will) but if you're me who tries to juggle practically everything that I see, you'll understand what I mean.

But all that changed when ISKIN New York was introduced to me. I knew the brand long before all the "formalities." I just couldn't bring myself to use the kit for fear of the "purging" process that comes with using new products on your skin. But we'll get right to that later.

I'm itching to get my hands on GQ's August issue (it's not yet available at Fully Booked, or is it?) but I can't wait to share this surprising twist of sudden importance (it's unexpected, really) for the inhabitants of the bottom shelf of well... my bottoms, The cargo pants.

Third photo is a hair inspiration. The rest? Lookbook!

Just a few years ago, cargo pockets were synonymous with everything embarrassingly bad about American style. But in one of the most unexpected trends of the fall, designers have reimagined them, snatching them back from the bong-suckin' frat boys and sewing them onto jackets, shirts, pants, and beyond. Here, actor Douglas Booth takes the new utilitarian look out for a long weekend in the wild. (GQ)

Now where the hell are my cargo pants?!

Happy birthday to the hottest and most talented stylist I know, Pam Quinones!
I don't know if you'll still remember this but we met way back in 2008 at one of the events I hosted. It was for Tomato at SM Manila. You were a resident stylist for the brand then. We even had a photo together! I published it on Friendster… but Friendster died.

Anyway, happy birthday again! Stay hot, stay awesome!

Finishing 10k at the recent adidas King of the Road. No training whatsoever. It was also my first marathon. 10k baby, 10k!

But really, the actual #AtLast moment here was when I got past the 9k mark. I never thought that I could, but I did! The good thing about this whole experience is that now I'm more than motivated to continue running and integrate it as part of my exercise routine. I don't go to the gym so I think that's the least I can do for my body.
Finished 10k in 1 hour and 48 minutes. Not bad for a first timer eh?
How about you? Do you have any #AtLast moments? Share it on Godiva Skin's Facebook page and you might just be rewarded with a Godiva Gift Pack!

Coca-Cola Philippines, through its social investment arm Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc., is calling on youth groups all over the Philippines to join this year's Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards, which recognizes the outstanding contributions of Filipino Youth organizations in social development through innovative projects.

TAYO's partnership with Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. began in 2005 through the "Coke Barkada Award," which is given to the group that best demonstrates the Coke Barkada spirit of collective volunteerism, or "working together for the community and living the value of positive action for positive change." The winning group receives a trophy and a cash grant. The award is part of the Foundation's  response to the global initiative of Coca-Cola that aims to focus on sustainability by improving personal well-being, building stronger communities, and protecting the environment. Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. has been the sole co-presenter of the TAYO Awards since 2006.

"Coca-Cola believes that the future of our society is in the hands of our youth, and that the power to change is multiplied exponentially as people come together on a common goal," shares Cecile Alcantara, President of Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. "Through TAYO Awards, and the Coke Barkada Award, we want to show the Filipino youth that they can indeed become forces for positive change."

The Coke Barkada Award in 2012 was given to Cebuano Youth Ambassadors for "BasuraSkwela: Changing Lives One Bag at a Time." The project was inspired by a single bag crafted from used tarpaulin. Making bags from discarded materials has become a source of livelihood for the urban poor community of Tingub in Mandaue City, Cebu. To date, the project has been able to fund scholarships for 50 children in the community.
Members of the Cebuano Youth Ambassadors receive the Coke Barkada Award during the TAYO Awards ceremony in 2012.
"BasuraSkwela is an innovtive project that has made a tremendous impact in the community of Tingub," says Atty. Adel Tamano, Vice President fro Public Affairs and Communications of Coca-Cola Philippines. It has empowered the residents in many aspects —trash recycling has helped inprove the environment; as a source of income, it has helped improve the lives of families; and by giving access to children's education, the project ensures the future growth of the community."

Tamano, who was also one of the judges for the awards, also noted that the Cebuano Youth Ambassadors is a great example of how the youth can make positive change happen when they work together. "Coca-Cola is all about sharing happiness, and this group definitely exemplified that barkada spirit we are looking for. When they presented BasuraSkwela to the TAYO Awards panel, I could tell that they also had a lot of fun working on the project."
The TAYO Awards 2013 is presented by the TAYO Awards Foundation, together with Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc., in partnership with the National Youth Commission and the Office of Senator Kiko Pangilinan.

Deadline for entries is on July 30, 2013. Interested organizations my submit their entries through the official website of TAYOAwards,

No other movie sequel could ever compare to the excitement that this is giving me. Seriously…

Tissues for my palms please.

They've also started showing some of the actors playing the former victors/tributes for the 75th Hunger Games Quarter Quell.

We all know District 12's Katniss and Peeta.

And if you're also a fan of the book, let me hear you say "Spot on!" (at least to some of them)

I have this article in my drafts for quite some time now. I got this from GQ and I'm just waiting for the right moment to publish it and I think now is the perfect time.

You see, GQ is like a bible to me in a way. Whatever it says, I follow. Truth be told, I read my GQ magazines more than my bible. Sorry Jesus.

Now back to the relevance of this post, we're gonna talk about skincare. Yes, skincare for guys. It's from GQ so it's legit. We men can talk about it now. Again, GQ says so.

But I'm gonna ease your way into understanding and at the same time appreciating the benefits of taking care of one's skin.

Take the time to read this very interesting article:

The Bath to Enlightenment
Are you the kind of rough-and-tumble guy who works hard, plays harder, and doesn't give a damn about silly things like hygiene, a savings account, or a healthy liver? Dude it might be time to take a bubble bath.
by Will Welch; illustrated by Zohar Lazar
I look back on my twenties and shudder. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar: Publicly I seemed well put together. I was successful at work and thrived socially. But privately I was a mess. I hated being alone, only cleaned up my apartment if somebody was coming over, worked way too much, slept way too little, never had my shit together financially, rarely went to the doctor. Like a lot of my friends, I was a sort of rambling, overgrown Peter Pan, suspended in perpetual adolescence. I made little effort to take care of myself.

Here's the part you might not relate to: What changed me was an $80 jar of body balm.

I was never the fastidiously groomed type. In my roaring twenties, I wore my self-destructive streak like a badge of honor. I thought it was cool that I rarely so much looked in the mirror.

Then, three years ago, when I was 28, my girlfriend (now fiancee) caught me standing in a towel at her sink huffing a bottle of her body balm. I was surprised to hear her say, "Try some!" Wait, really? It was expensive, and she'd been carefully rationing it out. At her insistence, I slathered on about 5$ worth. It made me feel like a grizzly drifter who'd broken into a luxury spa. But I laughed when she offered to buy me a bottle. "You gotta be kidding!" I said. "I can't use stuff like this." She stopped me. "Why is it okay for me but not for you?"

Look, I know how this sounds, but seriously? Growing out of the whole adolescent self-destructive shtick started with me (literally) cleaning myself up. I was like a delinquent kid who lands in the military and finds himself taking perverse pleasure in folding his uniform and cornering his bed. For the first time, I took a good look at my skin. I went to a dermatologist. I started using pore strips for the blackheads on my oily noise. (Yes, really.) For ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes at night, I took care of myself - and I didn't stop at grooming. I'm probably still rough around the edges, but now I go to the gym, I go to the doctor, I set up my 401(k).

I'm not saying anyone else is going to to experience a rite of passage at the bottom of a bottle of glorified skin moisturizer. But in a time when men are encouraged to live like eternal frat boys, we've got to find an entry point to the grown-up world. You can't keep living like Seth Rogen in Knocked Up or some bootleg Keith Richards wannabe. Bad credit is not cool. Unwashed bedsheets are nasty. And never going to the doctor? C'mon, son. Find one aspect of your life where you can learn to take care of yourself and the rest will fall like dominoes. For me, bizarrely, it happened when I admitted that I'm a grown-ass man with dry skin and an oily nose - and that is was time to do something about it.

- end -

Relatable eh? Pretty much the same as the guy in the story, I started to seriously take care of my skin at the age of 28. I used to be the type whose skincare regimen includes just a facial wash and sunblock and once in a while, a visit to the derma when I have breakouts. But as I grew older, I realized that it's just not enough.

I recently got introduced to the ISkin kit (available at Flawless) and I, being all about looking young and fresh, made the effort in adding 10 minutes in the morning and another 10 at night to basically wash and slather my face with whatever it is that you see below.
The ISkin Kit costs around Php17,000 and is available through prescription at Flawless
I've been using the kit religiously for more than two (2) weeks now and so far, I like what it has done to my skin. There's a minor breakout (part of the purging process) during the second week of usage but nothing that a regular facial from Flawless can't fix. No photos yet but wait until I get to the first month. Will update you by then.

How about you? Ever tried using the the ISkin facial care set?

Up until last July 10, I never really knew much about the Clear Dream Match other than the first one held was during at the peak of soccer's popularity here in our country and that its faces were those of the Younghusbands.

At the launch of the second Clear Dream Match, guests were asked which team will they root for this year by choosing the James or Phil CLEAR uniforms upon entrance at K-PUB BBQ in BGC.
We were able to keep the shirts too! Of course, we have to wear it all throughout the event to show our support to either James or Phil.
I went with my gut instinct (and by instinct, I meant Angel Locsin's —she's a friend by the way) by choosing Phil. It got me a friendly tap on the shoulder and a "Good choice!" comment from Phil himself.

It was also at the event I discovered that Phil was last year's reigning Clear Dream Match champion. So I guess I made the right choice.
This year, CLEAR Philippines will donate a percentage of ticket sales to the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation, as well as Unilever Personal Care products for all children in the foundation.
In its second year, the biggest football all-star game in the Philippines, the Clear Dream Match, returns with more football talent and a more intense rivalry between Phil and James Younghusband.

I was fortunate enough to catch the last day of the last Manila leg of the Cheap Monday Vignette caravan at Bratpack, Greenbelt 5 today.

Putting up a Sharpie Freedom Wall at their first leg in Alabang Town Center (June 15 - 16) and Free Digital Nail Art in Trinoma (June 29 - 30), this time Cheap Monday had a Cheap Art Party in Bratpack Greenbelt 5.

I don't know exactly what went on but I'm sure the party was a blast! And where there is a Cheap Monday Vignette, there' a whole lot of canvas bags...

and Sharpie markers to play around with.

Of course, those were used to create Cheap Monday canvas art bags.

Here's my masterpiece,

iGrab, the newest online portal for quality retail deals and products, recently launched its site and first redemption store at the country's one-stop, nonstop tourism destination, Resorts World Manila.

With enticing discount offers ranging from the latest gadgets, food deals, travel packages, events access,  wellness, and other premium retail products; iGrab has set a new trend in E-commerce and online marketing.

Stemming from mother company, Netdeals, Inc., iGrab serves not only as a portal to great deals for online consumers, but also as a merchant platform to promote the best brands of today.

"Our offers consist of reputable and premium items, which are not necessarily expensive but are known to be good quality products," according to Jay Padua, iGrab's Director for Marketing. "What sets us apart from other E-commerce sites aside from better deals and more premium brands, is the technological design we've mounted from the offshoot. You can easily browse and navigate our website from your phone compared to most which are not really mobile compatible. We have always focused on mobile because we want to be in the forefront of that revolution," he added.

And this July, bigger projects and promos are slated for iGrab members as it opens its first redemption store, followed by a 2-day grand sale of up to 50% discounts on premium items until tomorrow, July 14.

"We've also made it easier for our members to purchase online as they now have three payment options via credit card, Paypal, or bank deposits to BDO, Union Bank, or BPI," said Padua who shared that more merchant partnerships and member convenience programs are currently on the iGrab drawing board.

Access to the iGrab website for browsing and purchase is for members only. However, membership to iGrab is free. Just click on and fill out details for instant membership and full access to the site.

I'm overwhelmed. Really.

I don't know how to give this entry a nice start 'coz I'm pressured that you might just skip this (just like Karrots) and read some of my press releases instead but if you're curious as to how I sound like and wanna hear my views on blogging, read on! Please.

Now, how's that for a nice intro?

Karrots is like the cool aunt from your mother's side of the family. The type who will let you drink rum despite you being a minor or let you smoke hash let you stay up way past your bedtime. She's that cool.

And fun/funny too!

Just like her "popular" (naks!) online show Live Love Lolz which I guested in last night. If you missed it, here you go... You can thank me later. Enjoy!

More Karrots news! She's making a blog comeback. It's up na pala. HERE. You can also stalk her!

Gone are the days when uniforms have to be boring and traditional. Enter premiere resortwear designer Charina Sarte who has defied that perception when she forayed into uniform design, making us see the traditional work wear in a totally new light.

Customers and bystanders alike coming in at the Globe Store in Boracay will surely feel the island vibe with the accommodating and friendly staff garbed in Charina Sarte-designed uniforms. With graceful designs, beautiful fabric selections, and exquisite craftsmanship, each piece of the uniform ensemble makes it truly unique and special.

The uniforms were 50's inspired. I made shirt dresses for the ladies which I thought were the perfect silhouette for a resort uniform. Then I chose a vibrant print to bring to life the minimalist and modern look of the Globe Store," Sarte explains. "The men's uniform, on the other hand, is all about comfort and style, so I made short-sleeved polo shirts paired with knee-length shorts. Both uniforms are designed to blend with the relaxed atmosphere of the Store and the island as a whole."

This is the first time that Sarte, well known for her sophisticated and elegant resortwear line has ventured into uniform designing. "I've always wanted to explore the uniform production side of my fashion design business. So when I was given the opportunity to design the Globe Store uniforms, I immediately grabbed it. The Store being based in Boracay was also a big plus because of my resortwear design experience," Sarte said.

Sarte's resortwear line already has a huge following among local and international fashion icons and celebrities and is even carried by leading department stores and boutiques, which includes a store in Mallorca, Spain.
Globe Boracay Store staff in their uniforms designed by Charina Sarte
According to Globe Retail Transformation and Management Head Joe Caliro, the uniforms of the Globe Boracay retail staff were a big help in creating a friendly and cozy atmosphere among locals and tourists visiting and transacting with the Store.

"Since the store is located in Boracay, one of the best island destinations in the world, customers in their beachwear or swimwear can come in without feeling intimidated since the people they're dealing with are dressed almost the same way. This establishes quick connection and rapport among customers and our staff, which is part and parcel of our thrust on superior customer experience," Caliro said.

You guessed wrong. Wore this NOT on the 4th of July.

Actually, it was the day after. Have I ever told you I hate cliches?
HYPE this on Lookbook
So July 5 was National Events' Day (again) and this is me showing my "patriotism" to our country by attending/supporting two events from a couple of successful homegrown brands (correct me if I'm wrong) which I've grown to love.

Attended the Bench presscon for Lee Min Ho's "My Everything" World Tour that afternoon; checked out the 25 Important Things I Learned from Bench gallery after —both at the Bench Tower,

and the Globe Tatt Awards Night at the Manila Peninsula.
