FOR MORE TRAVELS AND BONDING MOMENTS, THIS IS THE STORY OF HOW I ENSURE THAT MY MOM STAYS STRONG

"Sama ako sa Japan."

"Sama ako sa hosting mo sa Malaysia."

"Punta tayo sa tita mo sa Singapore bago tayo mag-Malaysia."

Ladies and gentlemen, meet my mom, Marilyn.

And yes, she has a serious case of FOMO.

My mom was a midwife in Saudi Arabia for almost 4 decades. My siblings and I were all born there, hence, the "Riyadh" in my name na most likely napagtrip-an lang nya 'coz my other two brothers don't have any Arabian cities in their names (but come to to think of it... Michael = Mecca... Robbie = Rabigh... things are getting clearer now...).

For most of her life, my mom was the breadwinner of her family. A role that she never neglected even when she started to build her own family. Being the eldest of ten and losing her father and eventually her husband (my dad) early on in life, I think it's natural for her to take on the responsibility. And she did, without hesitations and regret.
In order for her to fulfill her duties as a responsible daughter/mother/sister, she decided to let my grandmother take on the role of being my second mother when I was just 5 months shy of turning a year old. This was my loving mamang.
I got her name, Catalina, tattooed close to my heart.
Even though my mom was not there for most of my growing up years, she made it a point to come home at least once a year and on special occasions too and that made up for everything. I understood her absence.

Fast forward to today, my mom's already retired. Finally! Something that I've been bugging her for quite some time already. Now, I'm taking on the role of breadwinner. At least, for her.

This was us in Singapore, early this year. It was our first out of the country together. The first of many (I hope she does not read this. Kukulitin nya ako, believe me).

My mom and I both love music. We're also decent singers, IMHO. If there's one thing that I'm proud that I got from her not her nose, it'd be her gift of managing stress. That's her and my secret to looking young. Naks! "May Pinagmanahan" nga naman as it says here on Ensure Gold with HMB's Grandparent's Day video.

But more than looking young, it is also very important for my mom to STAY STRONG. Syempre, for more travels and bonding moments together. And in order for her to achieve that, I make sure that she drinks Ensure Gold with HMB.
